Description
Eat Wild for a Day
Join us for an immersive day of wild food and ancient fire, guided by expert foragers and skilled teachers. You’ll forage together, pool your ingredients, cook meals as a community, and learn the ways of our Mesolithic ancestors; using Mo’s Meadow as our base, tucked away in the heart of Scotland’s Central Belt. Whether you’re curious about wild plants, eager to learn ancestral cookery, or simply craving the warmth of being together with like-minded people, this is your invitation to come home to the wild.
A relaxed day where you can hangout, slow down, breathe deep, and reconnect with the land alongside kindred spirits. As the home of the now-renowned Wildbiome Project, it has captured the imaginations of many who are curious about rewilding and living closer to nature. With growing interest in the simpler way of life, Mo wanted to create something deeply collaborative: a welcoming, hands-on day where people could come together to share skills, learn from each other, and experience the joy of a truly communal lifestyle.
FORAGING
Spend the morning discovering plants and collecting what we need for an amazing salad and vegetables to be cooked over the fire. Mo has created a wild food paradise over 4 acres. Dig a pit and learn a simple ‘clay-bake technique’ to cook fish 9or other proteins/root veg if you prefer).
FIRE
Fire has been with us for around 1.5 million years. We are the only animal that is not afraid of fire, uses it and feels comfortable around it. It has protected us from predators and the cold, provides light in the dark and makes our food more digestible. A true friend. But what if the fire goes out and our modern lighters fail?
There are some great ways to get it going again directly from natural materials. We’ll learn a few of these methods, as well as the tinder material to use and some tricks to get a fire going quickly and safely. Did you know that you can also take fire with you on a hike?
We will practice some of the most exciting fire making methods, such as hand drill, fire bow, spark fire with flint and marcasite, as well as flint and steel and look at different types of tinder, without which fire making does not work.
FEAST
We will also investigate Stone Age-style simmering, roasting, frying… without a pot or pan. We cook meat, fish, eggs and vegetables using various methods such as cooking stones, grill stones, hook grills, wood grills, stick grills, stone roasting, ember roasting, wrapped foods, etc.
We will be cooking a mixture of foraged vegetables with some fish. Do bring your preferred protein if you would prefer tofu, halloumi, etc. and anything else you’d like to bake in the embers (e.g. root veg).
